Nyons Captain De Pierro: Gute Nachrichten! (Nyons Captain De Pierro: Good News!)
Hey everyone! So, you know how much I love exploring the French countryside, right? Especially the Rhône Valley. Well, let me tell you about my recent trip to Nyons and the amazing news I got about Captain De Pierro, that legendary olive oil producer. I was so stoked!
My Olive Oil Odyssey (and a near-disaster!)
I’ve been obsessed with olive oil for years. Seriously, I could write a whole book about it. I’ve tried tons of different brands, from cheap supermarket stuff to fancy, imported oils. But, nothing compares to the taste of a truly exceptional olive oil, and Captain De Pierro has always been on my “holy grail” list.
So, I planned this whole trip to Nyons, specifically to visit the Captain De Pierro mill. I even booked a fancy hotel – a little splurge, you know? Anyway, I get there, all excited, ready to sample their amazing oils. And guess what? The mill was closed! I kid you not. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. All that planning, the travel expenses… wasted! I almost cried. Talk about a major travel fail. I ended up wandering around Nyons, feeling super defeated, and grabbing a mediocre sandwich. Major bummer.
The Unexpected Twist: Gute Nachrichten!
But, here’s where things took a delightful turn. I ran into this adorable little old lady selling local produce near the market. We got to chatting, and I mentioned my disappointment about Captain De Pierro being shut. She smiled, this huge, warm smile, and said, "Oh, non, non! Gute Nachrichten!" (She spoke a little German, which surprised me!). She explained that the mill was closed for renovations, but they'd be releasing a new, limited edition olive oil soon—a blend of Picual and Picholine olives, supposedly incredible. She even gave me a small sample from a pre-release batch!
The Taste Test: Seriously Amazing!
Let me tell you, it was divine. Seriously, the best olive oil I've ever had! Rich, fruity, peppery... all the good stuff. It had this incredible depth of flavor I've only dreamed of. It was a revelation. This was the good news I was so happy to hear.
So what did I learn from this whole adventure?
- Always check opening hours online: Duh! I know, I should have checked their website beforehand. Learn from my mistakes, people!
- Embrace unexpected encounters: Sometimes the best experiences happen when you least expect them. That random chat with the old lady led me to the best olive oil of my life! Who knew?
- Don’t be afraid to ask locals for advice: Those folks know their stuff! Local advice is invaluable when traveling, especially in smaller towns like Nyons.
Captain De Pierro's Secret (and where to find it!):
The limited-edition olive oil blend is supposedly launching soon. The old lady said to check their website and social media. I’ll keep you all updated, too! If you’re in the Rhône Valley, make sure to check out Nyons. It’s a charming town with plenty of other things to see and do. And don't forget to grab some incredible olive oil!
Seriously though, if you ever get the chance to try Captain De Pierro’s olive oil, do it. You won’t regret it. Trust me! This is just one of my experiences in the Rhône region, I have so many more stories to tell. Stay tuned for more!
