Okay, folks, buckle up, because this is a story about love, loss, and a whole lotta Iris. You know, the flower? Not some crazy ex-girlfriend named Iris…although, that would make for a story, wouldn't it? This is about how a simple, beautiful iris brought me and my husband, Thomas, together. It sounds cheesy, I know, but stick with me.

It all started about ten years ago. I was going through a rough patch – a breakup, job woes, the whole shebang. I felt totally lost and needed a project, something to distract me from feeling completely blah. So, I decided to tackle my neglected garden. It was a mess, seriously overgrown and a bit depressing, much like my emotional state.

I decided to focus on one small section, a tiny corner that was choked with weeds. I started digging, cursing the stubborn roots and wondering why I'd even started this gardening madness.
